Latest Release Information for AQ 2002

The most current release of Ancestral Quest 2002 (Version 10) is Build 19.

There is a newer major release of Ancestral Quest. It is version 16. The current build is 12. For a specially priced upgrade fee, you can upgrade to this new version of the software.

All changes made to AQ 2002 since its initial release are listed below.

Changes in Build 19 (7/09/2003)

Enhancements

  • Added 'Register Ancestral Quest' menu option to Help menu
  • Added 3 new Source Category types
  • Provide option (default) to turn Ancestry.com links off for living individuals

Bug Fixes

  • When attaching a multimedia object to a citation, the preview image did not immediately appear after selecting the image file name
  • In the Individual Edit screen, citation indicators were not always updated when citations changed
  • When using Attach To Other Events to attach a citation to a Record event, "Applies To" was not always set to "Event" as it should have been (did not damage data)
  • A Marriage notes page break problem was fixed in book reports
  • An incorrect count of repositories was sometimes reported in About, Additional Stats
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert between .ac and .aq files would drop, reassign, or duplicate scrapbook items
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert would undeleted repositories that had been deleted
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert would create duplicate, orphaned contact records
  • DB errors were reported when deleting an individual/marriage with citations
  • When editing a citation, changes to the text were lost in the rare case where the user clicks Replace to choose a new Source
  • The Christening event name displayed incorrectly in event list in Attach to Other Events
  • In Check/Repair, improperly deleted citations were not always recovered
  • From the Documentation page, citation/source details could not be viewed in read-only databases
  • In Modified Register report, 'A married B in 1886' was displayed instead of 'A married B on 1886' if only a year is known for the marriage
  • DB Conversion from PAF2 format (indiv2.dat) would crash on import
  • (Build 16 only) Make sure no data requests are sent to Ancestry.com if those links are turned off
  • (Build 16 only) Deleting or editing user events with sources would produce a db error for citations
  • (Build 16 only) When in Ancestry.com, some keystrokes key passed through to Pedigree screen
  • (Build 16 only) When in Ancestry.com, copy and paste didn't work as expected

Enhancements

  • Added option for direct links to Ancestry.com on Pedigree screen (activate or remove on View menu)
  • The program now updates an old DB to allow for the Ancestry.com feature
  • On Name List View, the Enter key now initiates an Edit of the highlighted individual
  • Increased list of 'Recently Used Files' in File menu from 4 to 6
  • On Family Group Report, allowed the display of citations for Grandparents
  • For LDS ordinance info, when an ordinance was not needed, an 'N' is now displayed
  • When generating a GEDCOM file to go with a Web page, user can now use all the options as when exporting directly
  • The status window of a GEDCOM export now shows the number of embedded scrapbook items
  • Adjusted the Family View to allow a little more space to display the names
  • The Date Calculator now warns the user about ambiguous or erroneous calculated dates
  • When editing the Title for a report, the sample now updates as you type to make the process more intuitive
  • When asking for Source Images to print on reports, if an image is referenced multiple times, it will now only show one time on the report
  • In some cases, when selecting fonts for reports, the user is only allowed to choose the font style, but not the size; the font selection dialog has been adjusted in this case not to show the size options to the user
  • For the Fan Chart, there is now a separate font for the title on the chart page, which is different that on the documentation pages
  • The list of Temple Codes has been updated
  • If the user edits a shared citation, the program now asks if they want to create a new citation and edit only the new citation, leaving the other references as they were
  • An additional option for how fonts should be displayed on the Family and Pedigree views was given (proportional was standard before, now you can have non-proportional)
  • The user can now skip the backup prior to an import
  • When upgrading to AQ, it will now search for a copy of the Preferences file in additional ways, making it more likely to retain your options
  • On Windows NT and 2000 a separate Preferences file is now saved for each user (this was done previously in XP only)
  • In the Research Manager, double-clicking on an item now edits it
  • The last setting for the GEDCOM option to embed scrapbook items is now remembered
  • When checking for latest version of AQ on Internet, AQ now checks the installed version of collaboration support when recommending upgrade possibilities

Bug Fixes

  • If a preview of a report failed, the close button wouldn't close the screen
  • When printing from the Name List view, AQ could become unstable
  • Collaboration Timeout errors were reduced
  • An occassional crash when generating a large fan chart was fixed
  • Citations in a PAF 5 database were not being shown
  • Occassionally, Check/Repair would report an error in the Name counts when there was no error
  • When inviting others to join you in Collaboration, certain special characters in the User ID would block this
  • When printing JUST the index of a cascading pedigree chart, AQ would crash
  • On Ahnentafel report to RTF, you couldn't print children, even when option was selected
  • On Fan Charts w/ Documentation, a citation number after a date was sometimes misplaced
  • On Fan Charts, some individuals on right side of full circle charts printed upside down
  • A possible problem when printing nicknames to book reports was fixed
  • On Check/Fix, if a note had a particular problem, it would stop the check from proceeding
  • Check/Fix fixes another problem with the list of citations
  • On the Ahnentafel report, index numbers of siblings were incorrect
  • Under some rare conditions, AQ would become unstable after printing to file
  • On Fan Chart, after you selected 13 generations, it would reset the option to 12 instead of staying at 13
  • On Fan Chart, the way program displayed information (fonts) was greatly improved
  • An occassional problem in the Date Calculator was fixed
  • On Pedigree View, removed 'Add' prompt for missing ancestors when the DB is read-only
  • A Temple Names export erroneously exported all To Do items
  • In Temple Names export, "DNS" records were erroneously exported
  • For .paf DB type, removed the "AQ Enhanced" export type
  • Unless AQ Enhanced type is on, AQ no longer exports the Possible Problem exclusion flag
  • For Temple Name submission, if a DB is read only, the "Put Submitted in Dates" option is now properly disabled
  • The "lookup" capability of the Name View was improved
  • Export (GEDCOM) of Scrapbook items is now allowed in Standard mode as well as enhanced mode
  • Some user requested options were not always used when exporting a GEDCOM file
  • On a PAF 5 file, AQ now reads the proper start person
  • On a PAF 5 file, AQ uses the PAF 5 terminology for Christening rather than Alt Birth
  • During a GEDCOM export, the Cancel key didn't always work
  • When searching for files (from the Open File screen), any PAF 5 files were not shown on results page
  • Ahnentafel Report - font for children was not being used
  • When using a PAF DB, occassionally an attempt was made to get research items; since PAF DBs do not have these, an error message was shown
  • In some Text reports, the place was not being displayed correctly
  • On a PAF 5 DB, AQ was not reading the proper list of note tags
  • On the Modified Register book report and Descendant Web Pages, multiple parent indicators were not always showing correctly
  • AQ was shipping with LTEFX10N.dll when it didn't need to
  • On the Family View, if you highlighted someone other than the primary person, then switched to the Pedigree or Name List view, AQ would sometimes crash
  • In a book report to RTF, if you had notes which contained '<tr', then Word could not read in the full .rtf file
  • Pedigree Report Documentation pages had many errors which were fixed
  • The Surname Index of a Web Page had an extra leading comma (,) before each new letter of the alphabet
  • The name and place indexes were not sorted properly in a PAF 5 DB
  • On a PAF 5 DB, we weren't showing the title of a person's name
  • On a PAF 5 DB, we weren't showing Live Baptism (LDS) correctly
  • In Modified Register and Descendant Book reports, if a person was the child of a second or later marriage, the link pointed back to the first marriage of the parent
  • On book reports, sources of Other Events for the marriage would not always print when requested
  • When looking for a missing scrapbook item, the process failed on a read-only database
  • Book reports printed to a WordPerfect file would occassionally drop pictures
  • On Book reports, marriage notes did not span pages properly
  • When using a PAF DB, in the Search/Replace for Notes screen, the checkbox for searching notes of research items was disabled - PAF Databases do not have research items
  • Check/Repair would sometimes try to check nonexistent to do items
  • In Collaboration, an attempt to roll back to an earlier version of the DB could fail
  • In a PAF 5 DB, Feb 28 never displayed correctly
  • On ancestry charts (wall chart), there were several formatting problems introduced with the "Include Siblings" feature that were not reported, but found by internal staff
  • If no file is open, using the Collab menu would crash AQ
  • When a full place name is replaced, the new name was erroneously put on the Single place list instead of the Full place list
  • If Collab couldn't auto check out a file, it wouldn't get latest either
  • Rollback from Context menu did not refresh the file properly
  • Deleting user events corrupted a citation list if there were more than one citation in list
  • Deleting an individual corrupted the To Do list for that person, as well as the citation list if there were more than one citation
  • Check/Repair claimed to fix some citation and Todo errors when it did not
  • Exporting a file with To Do items which referenced Repositories would crash AQ
  • If you exceeded the maximum length of a filename (only hypothetical -- no one ever encountered this), Windows would not let you create it properly, and AQ would use a blank name rather than warn you
  • In a PAF 5 file, the alphabetic lists of Sources, Repositories, and Event Types would often miss some entries in the display though there was no damage to the files
  • When entering dates in the To Do items, if you had selected "European" format, it still treated it as a US date
  • In Custom Reports, if sorting on any place field, the entries could be out of order by a few lines
  • In Custom Reports, if sorting on notes, AQ almost always crashed

Changes in Build 14 (01/31/2003)

  • Added the new 'Invite Others' feature to the Collaborate menu
  • Integrated the Basic and Collaboration setups into a single setup for the distribution CD
  • Collaboration file list was not properly refreshed after deleting a file
  • Collaboration prompts now explain that the initial upload or download is slow but is only required once, and subsequent operations will be faster
  • A cancelled Publish could not be completed or restarted, even with Undo Check Out
  • Documentation > Find reported 'Replaced n instances' when no replace was performed
  • Global Find/Replace in Notes reporting for matched ToDo items was improved

Changes in Build 13 (01/24/2003)

  • Advanced Focus/Filter going into filtering mode when it should not be
  • Check/Repair did not handle some linkage issues with multiple spouses
  • Check/Repair of citations could introduce further errors in rare cases
  • Check/Repair not always adding Research Items to chain of owner even when reported as fixed
  • GEDCOM Import truncated some notes fields at 64K on import
  • GEDCOM Import did not recognize special Citation and ToDo fields from Legacy GEDCOMs
  • Name List sort order indicators were backwards for the Date column
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert doubled the category use counts when rebuilding DB
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert would remove citation page number information
  • Web Page Generation 'Invite Collaboration' option now available for all files, not just collaboration files
  • Print ranges were ignored, all pages always printed regardless of the range selected
  • Radio button for a Print page range not automatically selected when range was entered

  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert removed Vol/Page/Film# text from citations
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert removed DB compiler/owner, DB Title, and other DB options
  • (Build 12 only) Right-click did not bring up context menu on Documentation page
  • (Build 12 only) Problems with adding new tags on Documentation page were fixed
  • (Build 12 only) Small memory leaks in Check/Repair when multimedia objects were defined

Changes in Build 12 (01/17/2003)

  • Global Find/Replace now works on Research Item notes
  • Deleting a source no longer strands citations
  • Merging records in a .paf file no longer loses source citations
  • Importing PAF 5 date ranges now work (from GEDCOM)
  • Some issues with Ditto were fixed
  • Some issues with tagged notes were fixed
  • You can now run spell-check multiple times on your notes
  • You can now spell-check just a highlighted portion of notes
  • Notes can handle over 64K in older versions of Windows
  • Pasting to notes from a WP now shows just the text
  • GEDCOMs created by PAF 5.1 could have corrupt header. AQ now forgives the error and reads past this.
  • Some adjustments to Check/Fix so citations and research items fixed in one pass
  • Names List view now shows surnames in all caps if that option is chosen
  • Some installation problems were fixed
  • In some cases, the Fan chart would crash. These have been fixed.
  • Scrapbook List Report--now honors the checkboxes in the options screen
  • If .ini file became corrupt with certain startup settings, AQ would not start up. Fixed.
  • Moved "Rebuild Database" to Check/Fix screen from Tools menu
  • Removed "Collaborative" as an option to convert TO on the DB convert screen
  • Changed "Active" to "Deleted" on additional stats screen
  • Added a check to fix a bad deleted scrapbook chain
  • Adjusted Check/Fix to find and fix some problems with citations
  • When adding a new person, if you added contact info, excess records (contact) would be created and deleted. Fixed.
  • When exporting scrapbook items, the new 'document' and 'other' types were not given the correct type designation. Fixed
  • GEDCOM--On export, places now have space separating them.
  • Last Changed Date is no longer updated when saving an Indiv record without making changes
  • Research Log Report now filters properly on a single word place name
  • Research Log Report sorts name now by Surname, Given rather than Given Surname
  • Indiv Summary report now properly reports place of live LDS baptism
  • On book reports and web pages, AQ no longer crashes when you have a long list of citations attached to places only
  • Opening up the Citation Selection box with a large number of citations, with large notes and comments, now comes up much faster
  • Actual Text of Sources was being truncated during a GEDCOM import if longer than a couple hundred characters
  • Some additional Unicode character conversion support added

Changes in Build 11 (12/12/2002)

  • Missing help topics added
  • An improperly filled-in dialog was left after deleting last citation for an event
  • Reporting of additional database statistic was improved
  • Application error if a Scrapbook object on the startup screen could not be found
  • Improved font sizing in Pedigree charts to handle unusual numbers of generations and page sizes
  • Unexpected .INI file toolbar setttings could prevent program from starting properly
  • Rebuild/Publish/Convert converted multiply-linked citations incorrectly, causing citation errors
  • Errors and omissions corrected in TempleReady export, report, and options dialog
  • Custom Print dialog would sometimes cause an application error
  • Additional statistics counts incorrectly included deleted records
  • Export while in Name List could cause an application error
