The following features are available in both Ancestral Quest and PAFWiz. Ancestral Quest also has many features not available in PAFWiz. Since all of these common features are available for use on a PAF 5 database, this page assumes that you are a user of PAF 5.
Both products:
- Appear on the PAF 5 "Tools" menu
- Open a PAF 5 data file. From the PAF 5 file, you can:
- Produce the following reports, plus more:
- Most of the reports available from PAF 5, including the Pedigree Chart, Family Group Chart, Ancestry Charts, Wall Charts, Descendant Charts, Individual Summary reports, Calendars, Scrapbook Pages, Book reports, Custom reports, and over a dozen predefined lists.
- Print reports to a PDF file
- Print most reports to a text file
- Print Book reports to a WordPerfect file
- These additional reports, not available from PAF 5, may be printed:
- Fan Charts (up to 13 generations -- quarter, half or full-circle -- up to 32" wide in Win95/98/ME, and unlimited paper size in newer versions of Windows)
- Drop-Line Direct Line of Descent charts between an ancestor and a descendant (up to 32" wide in Win95/98/ME, and unlimited paper size in newer versions of Windows)
- List of Scrapbook (multimedia) items used
- Line of Descent between any two individuals and a common ancestor
- Sorted Places Summary List
- These additional options are available for reports you can otherwise print from PAF 5:
- Print Siblings of Ancestors on all ancestor charts and book reports
- Print Documentation for Pedigree Charts -- notes, sources, and source images
- Print images of sources for all reports that generate documentation (books, Individual Summary, Pedigree, Family Groups)
- Print only the unmarked ( not !) notes. With PAF 5, you can print all notes, or only the Marked (!) notes. With PAFWiz and AQ, you can also print only those notes that are NOT marked.
- Sorted Places List -- optionally use the Filter/Focus capability to select a group of people. Only places associated with that group will print.
- Book reports - Print fill-in-the-blank lines for missing events
- Modified Register Book reports - limit the number of names in the "traceback" list
- Create Web pages from your PAF 5 data. These options are enhancements not available in PAF 5:
- Include the Pictures of individuals on the main page, not just as a link
- Include images of sources
- Include only the unmarked notes (as well as all notes, or marked only)
- Include siblings of Ancestors on the Ancestral type of web page
- Choose a uniform size for pictures in the Scrapbook for each individual
- Export family information to a GEDCOM file. These options are available only through AQ or PAFWiz -- not available in PAF.
- Export the scrapbook items themselves. Not just the links to the items, but the complete scrapbook item. This feature allows you to make a complete backup of your family data -- scrapbook items and all -- into a single file. It also allows you to send your entire data in one file to a relative.
- View information on enhanced screens. Additional viewing options include:
- Search Ancestry.com for all individuals on your Pedigree screen
- Search other commercial websites for any individual in your file
- Advanced searching of the Online IGI for current ordinance information
- View the Name List. You can customize this to show any columns, and you can sort by any column, with a sub-sort on up to two more columns.
- View your notes/sources on the consolidated Documentation screen. From this screen, you can examine the notes and sources for an individual and his/her marriage(s)
- View a list of "Family Sources" -- just those sources that document the members of a family group
